Turn off this iPhone feature for children’s safety, police warns

Ana sayfa / iOS

Apple introduced a feature called NameDrop with iOS 17. This feature, which works similar to AirDrop, allows users to transfer contacts in seconds. However, many police departments in the US have said that NameDrop could jeopardize the safety of children.

NameDrop, enabled after the iOS 17.1 update, allows users to share phone numbers, email addresses and photos between Apple devices. The feature works by bringing the device screens closer and touching them together.

However, this feature is thought to endanger many children under the age of 18. Police say it is especially easy for strangers to exchange numbers with children. He therefore urged parents to disable the NameDrop feature.

Another tech giant on the brink of bankruptcy!

Resonac, a manufacturer of hard disk, closed its main factory. HDD companies are losing out as SSDs become mainstream.

A police department in the US state of Connecticut issued the warning on social media. Some parents said they were unaware of NameDrop after updating their children’s devices. However, not all parents think the feature poses a risk.

Apple also says that the feature involves two-step verification. This means that when NameDropping with two iPhones, both parties must actively verify. Police departments disagree with Apple.

It is possible to say that a similar danger can actually be done with AirDrop. However, the fact that NameDrop allows easy exchange of contacts seems to make children vulnerable to strangers.
